Looking for a warm-weather upgrade to your coffee routine? On a hot day, there is little better than a refreshing iced latte. If you want to know the best way to make an iced latte at home, then keep on reading.

What is an iced latte?

Exactly as it is described, an iced latte is the cold counterpart of the traditional latte, and involves cold milk rather than steamed milk, as the original version of the drink does.

Equipment

In order to make a proper iced latte, the only equipment you will need is:

  • Espresso machine
  • Tall glass

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots of espresso
  • 2 tsp sugar, honey, maple syrup, or other sweetener (optional)
  • Ice
  • 100ml milk of your choice

Preparation

  • Step 1. Brew your espresso using your preferred method
  • Step 2. (Optional if using sweetener) Mix your hot espresso with your sugar, syrup, or other sweetener until it has completely dissolved
  • Step 3. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes - you can choose the amount depending on how cold you’d like your iced coffee to be, but more ice will ensure that it stays cold for longer
  • Step 4. Pour the milk over the ice
  • Step 5. Add the espresso on top
  • Step 6. Give it a stir and enjoy your refreshing iced latte!

Tips and Tricks

Like many coffee beverages, an iced latte can be customized based on your preferences. Find some of our recommendations and tips below for how you can create a delicious iced latte, as well as some myth-busting curiosities.

Additional Ingredients

A simple way to take your iced coffee up a notch is by adding a flavoured syrup to your iced latte. If you’re still not ready to let go of the iced coffee when autumn rolls around, why not make an iced pumpkin spice latte by adding pumpkin spice syrup to your drink?

You can also customize your iced latte by adding whipped cream on top for a treat.

Best coffee for iced lattes

For cold, milky drinks like the iced latte, you’re best using a darker roasted coffee bean. A stronger-tasting coffee will ensure that the flavour isn’t too diluted by the ice or the milk.

The Differences Between Iced Coffee and Iced Latte

While you might use the two terms interchangeably, there is actually a distinct difference, if you’re being precise with your coffee terms. An iced latte is exactly what it sounds like - an iced version of the traditional latte. However, an iced coffee is a more of a catch-all term to refer to any type of iced or cold coffee and can easily be prepared by brewing your favourite coffee and pour it over ice cubes.
